If last week’s recommendation got you into Shameless, this one is for you too, but a little different.
Inherited is another podcast under the Shameless Media umbrella, hosted by Ruby Hall. Where Shameless is your weekly pop culture companion, Inherited goes deeper. Each episode Ruby sits down with a guest and explores the relics, recipes, rituals and rules we inherit over a lifetime and how they shape who we are. It’s an interview show but not in the way you’d expect, less polished celebrity soundbites and more genuine, unhurried conversation.
The episode I want to specifically recommend is Ruby’s conversation with her grandmother, Nana Kay, recorded as Kay reflected on her life lessons at 80. Kay opens up about giving up a child at 17, what it was like growing up in the 1950s and 60s, meeting her husband, and the heartbreak woven throughout a life that kept moving forward anyway. It is one of the most heartfelt and at times heartbreaking conversations I’ve listened to in a long time. The kind of episode that stays with you long after it ends.
You can find Inherited wherever you listen to podcasts and I’d genuinely recommend starting with this episode. New episodes drop every Tuesday.
