What I’m Packing for Portland Maine: A Long Weekend Carry On

Four days in Portland Maine, two of which are calling for rain, and I’m doing it all in a carry on. If you’ve ever tried to pack light for unpredictable weather you’ll know the challenge. Here’s exactly what made the cut.

The Bag

Packing cubes are the first thing that go in. They keep everything organised and compressed and once you start using them it’s hard to go back. Everything fits so much more neatly and finding things mid trip becomes a lot easier.

Clothes

Four days, four outfits, all mix and match. The goal is pieces that can be dressed up or down depending on what the day calls for. Portland has a really walkable and casual vibe so nothing too precious, but put together enough for a nice dinner. A jean jacket and a couple of sweaters for layering cover everything, especially for a trip where the weather is unpredictable and you’re spending most of your time outside exploring.

Rain Ready

Two of my four days are forecasted for rain which means a good rain jacket is non negotiable. Mine works over everything without adding bulk to the bag, and it’s one of those travel pieces that genuinely earns its place every single time.

Shoes

One pair of sneakers that works for walking all day and still looks good at dinner. The carry on golden rule, one versatile pair, no exceptions.

Makeup

Simple and intentional. Foundation, brow setting gel, mascara and blush, everything I need to look put together without overdoing it. It all fits into my Makeup Junkie flat bag which lays completely flat and slides into any corner of your carry on without taking up real estate. Genuinely one of the best travel purchases I’ve made!

Toiletries

Everything decanted into travel sizes. The less space your toiletries take up the more room for everything else.

Portland, we’re ready. I’ll be sharing the full trip guide when I’m back but in the meantime if you’re packing for a similar trip I hope this helps. A carry on is always doable, it just takes a little intention.
