Portland has the kind of shopping that actually makes you want to slow down and look at everything properly. Every store feels intentional and every item feels like it was chosen for a reason. Here’s where we spent our time and what made each stop worth it.
Bella Funk is a women’s clothing boutique in the Old Port and the kind of store you walk into for a look and leave with a bag. The pieces are beautifully curated, a lot of them made from natural materials by smaller independent designers, and the whole selection has a simplicity to it that feels considered rather than trendy. I came home with a beautiful navy linen skirt that I’ve already worn more times than I expected. If you’re looking for simple, beautiful pieces that feel like they’ll actually last, this is the place.
The perfect stop if you’re looking for something to bring home, whether that’s for yourself or someone else. Soleil carries a really lovely mix of home goods, stationery, books and little trinkets that feel genuinely special rather than generic souvenir territory. It’s the kind of store that makes gift giving easy because everything in it feels like it was made to be discovered. Don’t leave without checking out the print vending machine, one of the more charming things I’ve come across in a shop.

A little ways out of Portland in Kennebunkport and absolutely worth the drive. Seacraft is tucked down a shell lined path in a tiny red cottage and everything inside feels like it was pulled straight from the coast, vintage sweaters, bags, pins, nautical prints and maritime curiosities that you genuinely won’t find anywhere else. I had to say no to more things than I’d like to admit! It’s the kind of shop where you go in for a look and come out having to actively talk yourself out of half the store.

A beautiful kitchen and home store in the Old Port with a really lovely selection of unique pieces that feel European in sensibility without being over the top about it. Think French soaps, linen textiles, antique finds and items that make your kitchen or home feel a little more considered. The kind of store that makes you rethink everything on your kitchen shelves in the best way.

We noticed people walking around with these little white bags and got curious enough to look it up. A short walk later we were inside filling up our own bags with European candy sold in bulk, which is a little different from your typical candy shop and all the more fun for it. Super cute, completely unexpected and definitely worth adding to your list if you’re in the area!

A home goods store with a really distinct character, mixing vintage finds with carefully chosen contemporary pieces from local makers and artists. Owner Jenny Bravo started it as a way to share the props she curated as a commercial food photographer and stylist, and that eye for beautiful objects comes through in everything on the shelves. It’s the kind of store where you come in looking for one thing and leave thinking about three others.
Portland’s shopping scene rewards the kind of browsing that has no agenda. Half the fun is wandering in somewhere unexpected and leaving with something you didn’t know you needed. I hope this list gives you a good starting point, and if you’re planning the full trip I also put together a guide to the best restaurants in Portland worth adding to your list.
