Mexico City has some of the best shopping I’ve come across in any city, and I don’t mean malls or international brands. I mean the kind of stores that feel like they were made for people who care about what they bring home. Here’s what stood out.
Happening is one of those stores you could genuinely find something for anyone in your life. It’s a beautifully curated mix of handmade Mexican art, homegoods, clothing, jewellery, fragrances and accessories, all made by local designers and artisans. The selection feels thoughtful rather than touristy, and the prices are fair for the quality. It’s the kind of shop you wander into for five minutes and leave an hour later, which is always a good sign.
Cara de Planta Esculturas Vivas
This was one of the most unique stores I’ve ever walked into. Every piece is one of a kind, handcrafted ceramics, planters and sculptures made by artisans that feel like functional art rather than souvenirs. I couldn’t leave without buying a small pot for my house, and my only regret is that I couldn’t bring back more. It’s the kind of shop you could spend a long time in without noticing, and the kind of place that makes packing light feel like a personal failing.

If you love bags this one is for you. Audette is a Roma Norte boutique created by two French designers who made Mexico City their home, and what they’ve built there is really something. The bags are beautiful, clean shapes and unexpected details that feel genuinely considered rather than just trendy. I’d heard about them before the trip and seeing them in person did not disappoint. The kind of store you walk into knowing you want one thing and leave reconsidering your entire bag collection.
Tucked away and a little off the beaten path, Perla Valtierra is worth seeking out. The showroom sits inside a beautiful 20th century townhouse and the setting alone makes the visit feel special. The ceramics here are handcrafted and genuinely beautiful, with a refined and considered aesthetic that feels very distinct. The designer behind the brand has studied traditional pottery techniques across Japan, Paris and Mexico, and that depth of craft comes through in every piece. It’s the kind of store you visit once and think about for a long time after.

A lovely local eco store carrying sustainable and cruelty free personal care and home products, all made in Mexico. It’s a really nice spot if you’re looking for something thoughtful to bring home that feels connected to the city and its makers rather than something generic.
Mexico City rewards the kind of shopping that’s really just exploring. Half of what makes these stores special is stumbling into them, taking your time, and leaving with something you couldn’t have found anywhere else. I hope this list gives you a good starting point, and if you’re planning the rest of your trip, I also have guides on the best restaurants and cocktail bars worth visiting while you’re there.
